Thanksgiving Feast 2014!

Our class celebrated Thanksgiving together with a special Thanksgiving Feast. The event was a complete surprise and the food was prepared by our teacher Ms. Frazier and Mama Frazier. Our feast included turkey, candied yams, red rice, green beans, buttered rolls, and sweet potato pie. Yummy! Our class certainly had a Happy Thanksgiving!

First Grade Flashback: Live Webcast with Usher!

Our class loves to read! We had a blast celebrating reading with singer Usher! Through a live webcast by Scholastic, we were able to connect with students from all over the world as we learned about the wonders of our possibilities from Usher. We were inspired by Usher's story and want to give back to our community. This school year, we want to give books to homeless children. We want to share our love of reading with them. We want to show love and help our community. Our reading service project is going to be awesome! #biggerthanwords

First Grade Flashback: Election Day 2014!

On Tuesday, November 4th our class learned all about Election Day! We read informational texts about Election Day and watched informative videos about the special day as well. Once we were experts, we filled out our very own voter registration cards. We used our voter registration cards to enter the election poll in our classroom and vote. Our class had two elections. Election Day is not just for adults! We are productive citizens too!

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip 2014!

Our class went on a field trip to Madrac Farms Pumpkin Patch in Rincon, Georgia. We had a blast! First, we went through a corn maze.  After the corn maze, we went on a hay ride. Then we jumped in bounce houses and went down a HUGE slide. We also got to pet and feed goats. Once we ate lunch, we got to pick our very own pumpkin to take home! Our pumpkin patch field trip was incredible! Now that's something to buzz about!

Geometry Fun!

We have been learning about shapes. We learned that shapes have attributes. We also learned how to construct shapes. Last week, our teacher let us construct shapes with our bodies! We had to work together to figure out how we could use our bodies to make 3 different shapes. After we made shapes with our bodies, we wrote about the attributes of each shape in our math journals. We also worked with our table groups to compare and contrast the shapes. The activity was awesome! Hooray for shapes!

1st Grade Storybook Parade!

Today our class participated in the 1st Grade Storybook Parade! It was so much fun to dress up as our favorite storybook characters. Our class led the line and we got to hold the big sign. Our teacher dressed up too! She was Glenda the Good Witch from the Wizard of Oz. Our day was very fun! We love reading and first grade!

Firefighters are Heroes!

Today we had a special visit from Fire Station #5! They taught us about fire safety. We loved their visit. We got to see a fireman get dressed in his suit. We also got to see all of the cool tools on a really awesome fire truck! Our teacher Miss Bee got to sit in the fire truck and make the siren alarm. She also got to talk on the radio. It was so incredible! Today was a super buzzing day in first grade!

Fire Safety Week: Learning About Smoke Detectors!

We have been learning about fire safety. Today our class learned about smoke detectors. Here is what we researched and learned.

Smoke detectors help you when there is a fire. (Josiah)

Smoke detectors alert you to smoke in a building. (Vincent and Aniyah)

Smoke detectors get people out of the house when there is a fire. (Me'Again)

Smoke detectors make a loud beeping noise to alert people. (Hailey)

You should check your smoke detector every month to make sure that it still works. (Serenity)

Our New Chromebook Has Arrived!

Our teacher Miss Bee won an award! She is a Gale Samuels Award Winner and has won our class a new Chromebook. We will use our new Chromebook to blog, Skype, Tweet, and complete exciting projects! We can't wait to start using our new technology tool! It is going to be an amazing school year! Hooray for our buzzing class and "bee-utiful" teacher!
