National Education Association President Lily Garcia Visits Our Classroom!

We were honored to have the President of the National Education Association, Mrs. Lily Garcia, visit our classroom on Wednesday. Mrs. Garcia was quite impressed with the smart little honeybees in Room 161.

Mrs. Garcia shook everyone's hand. She also gave us a message from President Obama and allowed us to give a message to her to send back to him!

We are so proud and honored that she was able to spend some time with us!

To show our appreciation, we made her a special book to say thank you.

Fun With Fairy Tales!

In celebration of the end of our Fairy Tale Unit our class had a Fairy Tale Day. On this day, we were able to dress in fairy tale costumes, bring our favorite fairy tale books, and read our favorite fairy tales. The day was filled with magical surprises and lots of fun! Our class had an amazing time celebrating the joys of all things fairy tales.

Hooray for Emerald Day!

Our class celebrated reaching the Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz by having an Emerald Day celebration. We learned all about the word emerald and walked down our own yellow brick road to the Emerald City of treats! Our class had a blast celebrating the wonderful book and theme!

Literacy Center Fun!

We love to read! Each and every day we are working to become better readers. One of the things that we do to improve our fluency, accuracy, automaticity is rotate through literacy centers. We have fun with the Daily 5: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, Word Work, and Work on Writing. We love centers!
